About Mushie
Mushie is a mushroom identifier & guide for iPhone, made by Tinker Smith Studio, an independent app studio. This website is its learning companion: a free reference for recognising wild mushrooms and their dangerous look-alikes.
Editorial policy
- Safety first. We never describe a wild mushroom as "safe to eat". Every page states that identification and edibility must be confirmed in person with a qualified local expert.
- Look-alikes are always shown. Every species page lists its dangerous look-alikes, and the most common mix-ups have their own comparison page.
- Sources. Content is compiled from standard published field guides and reference works, and is checked against sources such as mycological society publications and Wikipedia. We do not publish toxin or symptom claims we cannot source; if we are unsure, we leave it out.
- Review status. Pages have not yet been individually reviewed by a professional mycologist (2026-10-22). We are looking for expert reviewers. If you spot an error, tell us via support, and we will correct it quickly.
- Photos. Photos come from Wikimedia Commons contributors under open licences (CC BY, CC BY-SA or public domain) and are credited on every page.
- Regional differences. Mushrooms differ between regions, and seasons depend on weather. Our guides cover temperate Europe and North America.
